Voltas ties up with GMRVF for community development initiative
Voltas is now allied with GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), the grass-roots change agent of GMR Industries, as partners in Corporate Social Responsibility.
The specific initiative undertaken is the introduction of a Certificate course in refrigeration and air conditioning, at the Centre for Empowerment and Livelihood (CEL) at Shamshabad. The project brings into play the invaluable experience gained by Voltas volunteers engaged in our Core Competency Project at Mumbai's Joseph Cardijn Technical Institute over the past 5 years. An MOU signed with GMRVF has resulted in a shared pursuit of responsible corporate citizenship through a similar community service agenda.
The project commenced in May 2008, and since then has achieved several significant milestones, such as the valedictory function for the first batch of student pass-outs; and the setting-up of a fully equipped AC&R laboratory at CEL. The second batch training is in full swing, with classroom sessions and laboratory practicals followed by on-the-job training.
It's worth mentioning that Voltas had previously worked with GMR on yet another landmark achievement, namely the MEP project for Hyderabad's outstanding new Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Now that same proven synergy is being channelled into a worthwhile social cause.
