A record in concrete pouring – on a water management project

Voltas achieved the largest-ever volume of concrete poured in a single day, on its canal pumping plant project at Chowbhaga. A part of the ongoing Kolkata Environmental Improvement Project (KEIP), the job required the pouring of 700 cu. m. of concrete at 10m. below ground level.

To add to the difficulty, the base had a 3m. variance between its upper and lower ends, throwing it off the horizontal plane. On-site engineers proved equal to the task, and achieved the pour without a hitch.
