Voltas delivers Rs 210 crore order for mining equipment
It was a breakthrough order for Voltas, for the world's second-largest model of hydraulic excavator, along with a maintenance and repair contract. The gigantic item of equipment is Terex O&K's RH-340B excavator; an order for three of these, along with 34 cu. m. buckets, had been placed by Hindustan Zinc Limited, to be commissioned by September 2009 at their Rampura Agucha Open-cast Mines in Rajasthan, India.
By clinching this order as well as the 5-year maintenance and repair contract, Voltas firmly outpaced some very aggressive competition. The decision was based on the advantages offered by the O&K equipment in terms of higher productivity and lower cost per ton, in spite of its higher capital cost. The availability of Voltas' proven service support was also a key factor, as was the confidence quotient in Terex O&K's product performance.
The order successfully unearthed the opportunities in one of the few sectors that continue to draw investments today.
Fully on schedule, the Terex O&K RH-340B excavators have been shipped in, transported to site, set up and commissioned, with support teams in place and all contingencies provided for. As expected, the equipment is performing its giant tasks with exceptional reliability.
