Voltas wins a slew of top trophies at MEP Awards 2010, Dubai
Voltas walked away with a rich trove of highly coveted honours at the MEP Awards 2010, held on December 12 in Dubai. These consist of
• ‘Overall GCC Project of the Year’ for the newly-completed Ferrari World
• ‘Middle East MEP Contractor of the Year’ and
• ‘Project Manager of the Year’ (for the second time)
Commenting on Voltas’ exceptional contribution to the iconic Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, the Overall GCC Project of the Year, the judges stated: “Voltas demonstrated strong design development focus on what was a colossal undertaking to deliver the very bespoke Ferrari World, across many different facets of the delivery chain and, in many cases, across design, development and value engineering also. Ferrari World is the winner for the sheer scale, diversity, depth of project delivery and skill outlined by Voltas in its submission.”
Speaking of the Middle East MEP Contractor of the Year award, the judges lauded Voltas for its “sheer scale and delivery power...It is a big player, and this is testified by its ability to win big work.“
In his words of acknowledgement, Executive VP and COO Shaukat Ali Mir said: “The Middle East MEP Contractor of the year award is the most coveted of the awards we have received tonight. It is an acknowledgement of the nature of the projects we undertake that are extremely complex, for demanding and challenging customers. There is a significant content of value engineering and engineering expertise involved, due to several of our projects being design-and-build. There is also a recognition here of the company’s ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects across the region, in a difficult period, and during which we are expanding as well. It is a recognition of the trust our customers have on us – that is very important.”
Added Ralph D’Souza, GM-Business Development MENA: “The size of the projects we undertake is remarkable in terms of their complexity and size, and across geographies. We have been progressively enhancing the scale of our service offering over the last ten years.”
The Project Manager of the Year award was won by D Sampath, who was commended by the judges for long-term expertise “worthy of more than one person.” As VP and Director:Projects, he leads a team of more than 400 engineers and supporting staff, as well as about 4000 operatives, with whom he has spearheaded huge projects such as defense bases, hospitals, royal palaces, five-star hotels, oil and gas control centres, malls and residential/commercial complexes. He presently heads the execution of Ferrari World and Central Market in Abu Dhabi, both of which are exceptionally large in scope, scale and value.
By contributing and applying his expertise on design aspects of complex HVAC installations, he has been instrumental in delivering value-engineered solutions, reducing both initial and life-cycle costs of projects. In this, as in so much else, he represents one of Voltas’ most distinctive value propositions and differentiators.
